Things to Do in San Diego This Weekend
June 5 – 7, 2026 — Verified Picks
San Diego kicks it up a notch this weekend — and honestly, I'm a little jealous of anyone trying to figure out what to do because there's almost too much. The Padres are home for three games against the Mets (Friday's Party in the Park is the move). Four World Cup–bound national teams are playing warmup matches at Snapdragon Stadium — Switzerland, Australia, Colombia, and Jordan — five days before the actual World Cup kicks off. North Park Music Fest takes over the neighborhood's bars with 40+ bands for $25. Golden State Ballet is doing A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Balboa Theatre, which is basically Shakespeare meets fairy tale meets incredible dancing in one of the most beautiful old theaters in San Diego. Cyclists are tackling Mt. Palomar at the Giro di San Diego GranFondo. Plant people have the Cactus & Succulent Show in Balboa Park. And the Blue Breeze Band plays the free Coronado concert series Sunday evening. Pick one thing. Pick five things. Just don't stay home.

⚾ San Diego Padres vs. New York Mets — Petco Park (June 5–7)
The Padres are back at Petco Park, and the timing couldn't be better. Three games against the Mets, three completely different vibes — Friday night's pregame party with $5 drinks, Saturday's heritage celebration, and Sunday's KidsFest with bounce houses in Gallagher Square. Mets-Padres always has energy. Add the fact that this is the first home series of June and you've got one of those weekends where Petco Park just feels right.
| Date | Opponent | First Pitch | Promotion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Friday, June 5 | vs. New York Mets | 6:40 PM | Party in the Park (Southwest Airlines) — $5 drink specials, live music in Gallagher Square |
| Saturday, June 6 | vs. New York Mets | 7:10 PM | Taiwanese Heritage Night (keepsake hat via Padres.com/ThemeGames) |
| Sunday, June 7 | vs. New York Mets | 1:10 PM | KidsFest (Nuna) — bounce houses, inflatables, face painters in Gallagher Square |
📍 Petco Park, 100 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101
💰 Tickets from ~$20+ via MLB.com/Padres or Ticketmaster

⚽ FIFA World Cup Warmup: Switzerland vs. Australia & Colombia vs. Jordan — Snapdragon Stadium (June 6–7)
This is kind of a big deal. Five days before the World Cup officially starts, four national teams are using San Diego as their final tuneup. Switzerland — who literally chose San Diego as their World Cup home base — plays Australia Saturday at noon. Colombia takes on Jordan Sunday at 4 PM. These aren't exhibition games where everyone's half-trying. Switzerland's coach specifically called this “crucial preparation.” Australia's treating it as their last real match. If you care about soccer even a little, Snapdragon Stadium is the place to be this weekend.
| Match | Date | Kickoff | Venue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Switzerland vs. Australia | Saturday, June 6 | 12:00 PM | Snapdragon Stadium |
| Colombia vs. Jordan | Sunday, June 7 | 4:00 PM | Snapdragon Stadium |
📍 Snapdragon Stadium, 2101 Stadium Way, San Diego, CA 92108
🏭 Tickets: SanDiegoFC.com/CountdownTo26
🚇 Transit: Green Line Trolley to SDSU Transit Center
Saturday tip: Switzerland vs. Australia kicks off at noon, so you could attend the match at Snapdragon and still make the Padres game at Petco Park that evening (7:10 PM).
Sunday tip: Colombia vs. Jordan kicks off at 4:00 PM — pick one, or catch early innings at Petco and head to Snapdragon for the second half.

🎵 North Park Music Fest 2026 (Saturday, June 6)
Forget the closed-street festival setup — this year, North Park Music Fest goes full neighborhood crawl. Over 40 bands spread across 10+ venues along 30th Street and North Park Way. Your $25 wristband gets you into Queen Bee's, U-31, The Office, Bivouac, Pretzels & Pints, and more. Frankie and the Witch Fingers headline (their live shows are genuinely unhinged). Cut Chemist is on the bill. The Gaslamp Killer. Brainstory. Plus a free all-ages Creator Fair with local zinesters and indie artists. This is the most North Park thing to ever happen in North Park.
🕐 Saturday, June 6 — 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM
🏨 Venues: Queen Bee's, U-31, The Office Bar, True North Tavern, Bivouac Ciderworks, Pretzels & Pints, and more
💰 GA: $25 | Day-of: $35 | VIP: $65

🧐 Golden State Ballet: A Midsummer Night's Dream — Balboa Theatre (June 5–7)
If you've never been inside the Balboa Theatre, do yourself a favor this weekend. Golden State Ballet performs A Midsummer Night's Dream — Shakespeare's goofiest, most enchanted comedy — in a 1924 Spanish Revival gem that seats only 1,335 people. Every seat is close. The choreography by Raúl Salamanca leans playful and accessible. Saturday's 2 PM matinee is perfect for families (done by 4:30, dinner in the Gaslamp after). Opening night Friday has that extra energy.
| Date | Time | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, June 5 | 7:30 PM | Opening night |
| Saturday, June 6 | 2:00 PM | Matinee |
| Saturday, June 6 | 7:30 PM | Evening performance |
| Sunday, June 7 | 1:00 PM | Matinee — closing performance |
📍 Balboa Theatre, 868 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92101
💰 Tickets from $72 via Golden State Ballet Box Office
🚇 Transit: Civic Center Trolley Station

🚴 Giro di San Diego GranFondo (Saturday, June 6)
This one's for the cyclists. The Giro di San Diego GranFondo sends riders through some of the most beautiful (and most demanding) roads in San Diego County — including the legendary Mt. Palomar climb. Four route options from 20 to 95 miles, all starting together at 7:15 AM from Escondido's Ryan Park. Even the 20-mile PiccoloFondo is gorgeous. But the real draw is Palomar — 11 miles of sustained climbing through oak woodland, chip-timed KOM/QOM competition, cash prizes, polka dot jerseys. Then an Italian feast at the finish. Not a bad Saturday.
| Route | Distance | Note |
|---|---|---|
| GranFondo — Mesa Grande | 95 miles | Full epic — includes Palomar + KOM/QOM |
| GranFondo — Palomar | 59 miles | The classic Palomar climb with timed segments |
| MedioFondo | 30 miles | Intermediate — scenic rolling hills |
| PiccoloFondo | 20 miles | Entry-level — fully supported, beautiful roads |
🕐 Saturday, June 6 — All rides start at 7:15 AM
📍 Ryan Park, 390 Hidden Trails Rd, Escondido, CA 92027

Free admission. Saturday and Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM.

Week three of the 56th (!) season of Coronado's free Sunday concerts brings the Blue Breeze Band — a Motown and soul group out of LA whose members have toured with the Temptations, Smokey Robinson, and Mary J. Blige. New to the series this year, and the concert board is especially excited about this one. Blanket, picnic, Spreckels Park, 6 PM Sunday. Free.
